A Brief Summary Of Modeling Projects Conducted by Alexander Van Buren.
1996 – Present

Model

Some of the definitions of a model include:

A small object usually built to scale, that represents in detail another, often larger object.

A preliminary work or construction that serves as a plan from which a final product is to be made. Such as a work or construction used in testing or perfecting a final product.

A schematic description of a system, theory, or phenomenon that accounts for its known or inferred properties and may be used for further study of its characteristics: a model of generative grammar; a model of an atom; or an economic model.

Verb
To make or construct a model of. To plan, construct, or fashion according to a model. To make conform to a chosen standard.

Adjective
Worthy of imitation.

Modeling

Modeling is about achieving two things simultaneously; getting a particular result and at the same time, learning how to do it. For this reason, modeling is one of the finest ways to ‘learn how to learn’.

The process of modeling is one of breaking down a complex event, skill, or phenomenon into small chunks so that it can be managed, understood, and recapitulated in some way.

The goal of behavioral modeling is to identify the elements of thought, belief, physiology, and action that are essential to producing a particular result or outcome.

Here are the 7 steps of every behavioral modeling project, and a description of the T.O.T.E.

Modeling Projects

2023 will mark the 27th consecutive year that Alexander has conducted formal behavioral modeling projects to elicit world-class patterns and strategies in both business and personal development.

Some of Van Buren’s original therapeutic patterns (that were the result of modeling projects) have been published in Anchor Point Magazine, The Sourcebook of Magic (Crown House Publishing), and The Big Book of NLP.

To inquire about a Modeling Project for your organization please Contact Us.

Van Buren teaches these patterns in his books, consulting projects, trainings, mastermind groups, and coaching programs.

2024 Modeling Projects

Marco-Modeling Projects Planned for 2024 Include:

The Genius Patterns of Albert Einstein
Einstein’s thinking patterns will be modeled from his written works and numerous other sources and then condensed into a set of patterns.

Accelerated Learning Patterns
A model will be elicited from a set of individuals who learn and acquire skillsets extremely rapidly. The models will include individuals who have acquired languages, learn technical skills, and adapted to new environments quickly and well.

2023 Modeling Projects

Extraordinary Imagination
The use of imagination for attaining goals, personal transformation, creativity, and problem-solving will be modeled in detail. First, boundary conditions will be set for precisely what constitutes extraordinary use of the imagination. Then, a set of individuals who meet the boundary conditions for the competency will be selected as behavioral models. A cognitive syntax for using imagination effectively will be elicited and operative formats established. The model will be assembled and honed to a minimum set of distinctions necessary for producing ‘Extraordinary Imagination’. This formula will be tested by applying it to a specific set of goals.

Thomas Alva Edison (Continued From 2022)
The thinking, inventing, and genius patterns of Thomas Alva Edison will be continued throughout 2023.

Prolific Output Patterns
A series of highly prolific individuals will be modeled and patterns for being prolific will be codified into a model and tested. The models will include writers, internet marketers, and product creators.  The Asimov-It Productivity Model from 2008 will be re-visited and incorporated into this project.

2022 Modeling Projects

The Mindset Of The US Navy Seals
The US Navy Seals are known for their extraordinary level of mental toughness, self-discipline, and self-control. Their way of thinking, planning, and challenging themselves will be modeled and encapsulated into a set of patterns, beliefs, presuppositions, go-to mantras, and behaviors. The model will be tested by applying them to a specific goal and measuring progress and variations.

Thomas Alva Edison
The thinking, inventing, and genius patterns of Thomas Edison will be behaviorally modeled using published material and entries from some of his notebooks. Emphasis will be placed on The Scientific Method, which he pioneered. His Read The Library, Use Of Notebooks, Speed Reading, Drawing, Iteration, and other cognitive patterns. beliefs and presuppositions will be codified into a model and tested throughout the project.

2021 Modeling Project

The Structure Of Entrepreneurship
The Lean Startup method of starting a company from idea to launch will be modeled in explicit detail. Operative formats for Ideation, iteration, pivoting, and validating a business model experientially will be emphasized.

The Lean Startup approach, the Strategy Canvas & Business Model Generation work of Alexander Osterwalder, and the work of Steve Blank at Stanford will be used as a starting point.

To test the model, a start-up will be launched using the complete set of distinctions that have been elicited.

2020 Modeling Project

Online lead generation magnates, the use of autoresponders for email marketing and follow-up, copywriting, webinars, virtual sales letters, and online lead generation will all be included and emphasized.

2018 Modeling Project

Networking

The skill of networking will be modeled, along with the beliefs, presuppositions, and values of several behavioral models who are considered experts on the topic.

A complete macro-model will be created including beliefs, operating formats, presuppositions, timeline components, criteria, and criterial equivalents, skill sets, and more.

The model will be tested and honed to final using the T.O.T.E.

Continuation of the 2015 and 2016 modeling projects

These projects are being continued into the later stages of the Test and Implementation phases.

2017 Modeling Project

The continuation of the 2015 & 2016 Modeling Project

This project is now in the final TEST and IMPLEMENTATION phases.

2015 & 2016 Modeling Project

Successful Investors & “The Rich”

The 2015 modeling project is to behaviorally model a group of highly successful investors and people of wealth.

The term “investor” will be clearly defined and differentiated from “speculator”.
The term “Rich” will be defined and boundary conditions for the competency clearly marked out.

The use of Benjamin Graham’s ‘The Intelligent Investor’ will be used as a resource along with the intrinsic value equations, beliefs, criteria and operative formats used by Warren Buffett.

Three individuals will be identified for the project and interviews will be scheduled. The research will elicit from the models their investment criteria, attitudes towards risk, the margin of safety, asset allocation, and their process for identifying and capturing optimum investment opportunities in a variety of markets with an emphasis on securities.

Their values, beliefs, presuppositions, essential timeline factors, the definition of criteria, and other structural elements will also be codified and used to construct a macro-model.

After being honed to final, the macro-model will then be tested over a 2-year period of time, and results will be measured using an established set of criteria.

Investment Banking

The Best Investment Bankers model was presented again by request for a group of investment bankers at George K. Baum & Company in Denver. The model that was created in the 2014 project was custom designed into a one-day training.

2014 Modeling Projects

Advanced Belief Change
This project involves the creation of several innovative belief change patterns.

Emphasis will be placed on creating a custom designed set of beliefs that are aimed at achieving a specific objective or desired lifestyle.

The Belief Pyramid
Language for Changing Beliefs Conversationally
Aspects of Belief Structure for The Creation of Habits

Internet Marketers
Internet marketers earning over $100,000 a month in passive income derived from the internet will be behaviorally modeled.

Boundary conditions for the competency will be established and a select group of models who meet the required criteria will be selected. The precise set of competencies, beliefs, habits etc. needed will be identified. Operating formats for each skill set will be elicited in detail.

A comprehensive model will be created and honed to the minimum number of distinctions necessary to create the desired outcome.

A testing phase will conclude the project and will involve implementing every aspect of the model and measuring the results.

Investment Bankers
I have been retained to model the success strategies of senior executives and investment bankers for George K. Baum & Company in Denver Colorado. They have been investment bankers since 1928.

Three of George K. Baum’s senior investment bankers will be modeled using on-site interviews. How they approach, communicate and sell to municipalities and charter schools will be elicited and codified, along with their beliefs, presuppositions, values and essential cognitive patterns.

The distinctions will be condensed into a model and delivered to a select group of investment bankers through a set of customized trainings.

2013 Modeling Projects

Passive Income Generated via the Internet
This project will elicit the structure of passive income streams using 3 behavioral models who earn over $20,000 a month from the internet.

Boundary conditions include defining ‘passive’ and ‘automated’, the amount of time required to create the income generation system, and the quantity, frequency, stability, and duration of income generated.

Advanced New Emotion Generator™
Additions to the original pattern created by Alexander over a dozen years ago will include extending the duration of peak performance states to give them a more stable configuration in consciousness that moves through time.

A pattern will be created for “Chaining States” so that a predetermined set of emotional states will trigger automatically and rotate in confluence in any desired context.

2012

The modeling project for 2012 is a set of original NLP change patterns.

The Positive Rumination Pattern™ is a way to eliminate worry and turn the worrying process into a positive mental experience.

The Happiness Patterns™ is a complete set of cognitive patterns with a set of beliefs, presuppositions, comparisons, and a sequence of operative formats. They produce a lasting and measurable sense of increased happiness and well-being.

The Gates of Attainment™ is a complete model for achieving breakthroughs in personal development. It contains a set of processes for removing long-standing limiting patterns and blocks that have prevented a person from achieving their most important goals.

2011

The Structure of Abundance™ project from 2010 will be extended into a modeling project entitled Genuine Wealth™. A special definition of true wealth will be created and then a model will be developed and tested.

Unique ‘boundary conditions’ for knowing when one is truly wealthy will be used along with an analog-style Wealth Barometer for measuring one’s degree of wealth.

The Opportunity Optimizer™. The process of identifying opportunities, prioritizing them, and making the most of them will be elicited in detail.

Three behavioral models will be used in order to obtain an extraordinary step-by-step strategy for capturing, implementing, and maximizing opportunities.

2010

2010’s macro-modeling project is the elicitation of The Structure Of Abundance™. The purpose of the project is to elicit the beliefs, operative formats, criteria, and other behavioral patterns and cognitive structures that produce the ongoing experience of “Abundance” and put them into a model that can be taught and reproduced.

The first 3 phases are:

Phase I
Definition Of The Competence
Boundary conditions of the definition will be clarified and criteria for their fulfillment will be determined.

Phase II
Selection Of the Models
3 to 7 individuals who meet the boundary conditions of the criteria for ‘living in abundance’ will be selected for behavioral modeling.

Phase III
Elicitation
A set of questions will be designed to elicit the primary operative formats and cognitive sequences of the models.

A set of patterns for generating abundance, affluence and wealth have been elicited and are currently being organized into a set of operative formats.

The 7 Steps of Every Behavioral Modeling Project

2009

Alexander’s most recently completed behavioral modeling project was The Inner Game Of Joint Ventures™ – now called The Joint Venture DIamond™.

The complete structure of effective joint ventures has been elicited along with a step-by-step process for doing joint ventures and strategic alliances. Dozens of insights into what it really takes to do effective joint ventures are part of the model.

2008

This year’s macro-modeling project is The Asimov It Productivity Patterns™.

This special combination of patterns results in extraordinary flow, productivity and focus.

This strategy was modeled from one of the most prolific men in history, Isaac Asimov. Asimov was a member of MENSA and wrote approximately 400 books in his lifetime. The pattern is a complete set of operating formats that combine to produce something beyond productivity – more of an immersion of passion combined with a joyous obsession.

2007

This year’s macro-modeling project is Exponential Revenue Drivers™.

Small and medium-sized businesses that thrive and grow will be modeled to elicit the sales, marketing, management, and other systemic drivers that are the causes of their revenue growth.

A contrastive analysis will be conducted to compare profitable companies that grow with those that do not grow and profit.

2006

A Champions Regimen
This year the macro-modeling project is called Raise Your Regimen™. World-class athletes, musicians, and high achievers in every area of endeavor consistently maintain extraordinary training regimens. This project is an add-on to The Champions Mental Game™ project some years ago.

A select group of world-class athletes will be studied and modeled to elicit the structure of a world-class regimen. Commonalities will be used to determine a set of criteria and steps for designing a high-performance regimen.

Special attention will be given to the process used for raising and keeping one’s regimen at the highest level possible for maximum performance and potential.

2005

Gates’ Mind
The thought patterns, problem-solving structure, and unique ways of thinking and working were demonstrated and published by Bill Gates. Modeled from his interviews and published works.

The completion of World Class Decision Making™.

Extraordinary Productivity
A complete modeling project to elicit the structure of extraordinary productivity. The Productivity Zone™ patterns help anyone overcome confusion and overwhelm and replace those unresourceful states with focus, clarity, and productivity.

The patterns are taught in The Productivity Zone™ training by Alexander.

Confusion to Clarity™
A therapeutic pattern for transforming confusion and overwhelm into clarity and focus.

2004

The Getting Better Faster Pattern™
Based on an interview given by Andre Agassi, this pattern is entitled The Getting Better Faster Pattern™.

It is the process Agassi used to make an extraordinary comeback when he was ranked 128th in the pro tennis circuit and considered over the hill. He used this sequence to rapidly rebuild his entire game and rise up thru the rankings to contend for the #1 position in professional tennis.

This pattern has been requested by name by various companies including Blue Green Land and Golf Corp., as it is an extraordinary way to help salespeople improve their skills very rapidly.

Alexander opens the training module with the statement: “In sales, the faster you get better, the sooner you make more money.”

World Class Decision Making™
A two-year project designed to elicit how the best decision-makers in the world do what they do. Three behavioral models were utilized and a complete process for decision-making and problem-solving was elicited and tested.

The World Class Decision Making Pattern™ was requested by name by Paramount Home Entertainment, a billion-dollar-a-year division of Paramount Pictures for a special training for their worldwide team.

2003

Watson’s Vision™
The cognitive sequence Tom Watson used to create IBM. The sequence involves a unique way to envision a company and uses unique comparisons to match current reality with the vision.

Exercising Every Day – And Loving It
A pattern modeled from a friend who exercises 6 days a week and loves it.

The Executive’s Way To Delegate
A senior executive from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena California was behaviorally modeled for his extraordinary ability to delegate.

Precise language patterns, presuppositions, and beliefs are included in the model.

2002

World Class Sales & Marketing
A complete modeling project for the Blue Green Land and Golf Corporation. This project involved being flown to Blue Green’s various land sales offices and modeling the top salespeople, referral getters, and communicators in each office.
A complete set of patterns evolved and were taught to Blue Green’s entire sales and management team.

A follow-up project involved modeling the top 2% of mortgage originators and additional salespeople who earn over $600,000 a year in commission.

Patterns include Sales Champion Drivers™, The Champions Referral Pattern™ and 29 Secrets Of Great Sales Super Stars™, and The Customer Service and Referral By Design Process™.

Bowlers
PBA bowlers were modeled and their techniques were put into a set of lessons and made available to bowlers.

A CD was also created using a special autogenic conditioning technique to install the patterns. Hundreds of testimonials have been received from bowlers all over the world including several from bowlers who have used the CD to bowl their best series and their first 300 game ever.

2001

The Champions Mental Game
This year’s macro-modeling project is The Champions Mental Game™. All champions, especially world-class athletes use a specific mental framework to keep themselves motivated, inspired, and training at high levels.

The self-actualization and positive conditioning patterns of Tom Platz are included.

This project will elicit the ‘mindset’ of champions and what they do mentally to stay at their best more often. Positive mental programming methods, reliance patterns, and methods they use to trigger peak performance states will be modeled.

Discovering Unconscious Beliefs™
This is an original NLP technique and is a process for elegantly revealing any person’s unconscious beliefs.

This pattern and other belief change techniques are taught in Alexander’s NLP Master Practitioner Certification Training.

The New Emotion Generator™
This is an original NLP methodology for identifying an optimum emotional state for any upcoming situation, then accessing that state in such a way that it becomes a stable configuration in consciousness that moves through time in a particular context.

This way of generating highly appropriate and useful emotional states is based on modeling numerous executives over a period of time and noticing how they generated the states they spent time in. The distinctions were put into a set of patterns originally called Executive State Management™.

2000

Executive Leverage
This set of patterns was modeled from a senior executive at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The complete model is entitled The Levels of Leverage™ and includes techniques for delegating, hiring, and qualifying others for competency.

Applications Of Kaizen & Personal Gemba Kaizen™
The principles of Kaizen were used to create an original model for personal use. The themes of ongoing improvement, problem-solving, morning market, and others were all modified so as to create a personal system of Kaizen.

The Frequency and Duration Model™
This is an original model for creating lasting change. It concentrates on habit creation, stabilization and elimination.

1999

The Champions Outcome Frame™
How do champions in sports, business, medicine, and science go about their goals and outcomes?

This project elicited 14 factors that demonstrate that brilliant people go about their goals very differently from all the rest. As a result of this project, four other types of ‘outcome frames’ were elicited.

The New Identity Generator™
An original NLP creation, this pattern is a designer recursive swish pattern and creates a continuously evolving identity that moves through time and is consistent with a person’s values and beliefs. This pattern is profoundly different from the standard “SWISH” pattern, which only installs a new self-image.

The Thought Template of Creation™

An original NLP pattern. This is an advanced manifestation template for rapidly getting what you want and having it show up effortlessly.

Quantum Leap Drivers™
An original NLP methodology for eliciting a person’s unconscious constraints and limitations that are out of their awareness yet holding them back. Part of the pattern involves offering optimum resources based on the way a person organizes their reality. Uptime Excitare™ is the special pattern used for this process.

Excitare is Latin for ‘to awaken or light up from within’.

1998

The Momentum Pattern
A 9-month project designed to elicit the structure of an experience called “momentum”. The state was described by the 3 models as the experience of ‘having the perfect resource show up just when you need it”. The Momentum Pattern™ is the sequence of steps.

The Values Dashboard™
On the suggestion of a friend who was, at the time, the chief information officer at Hitachi, this model was created using the structure of project tracking software used at Hitachi. It is a reliable method for quickly determining if you’re living your values at any moment in time and, if not, what to do to correct your deviation so as to live your values in each area of your life and so attain greater life balance.

The Day End Review™
An original NLP creation, this pattern was submitted to Anchor Point Magazine and published. It later appeared in The Sourcebook of Magic and The Big Book of NLP.

The pattern is an advanced and user-friendly New Behavior Generator that allows a person to become more and more resourceful by using their own personal history and a simple resource template.

1997

Creativity & Genius
This was Alexander’s first macro-modeling project.

It was a two-year behavioral modeling project designed to elicit the structure of creativity in detail. Part of this project was to read Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks every single day for two years while eliciting Walt Disney’s actual creative process and studying Peter Drucker’s concepts on innovation.

1996

A two-year project to become skilled at the behavioral modeling process.

See the 7 steps of every behavioral modeling project for details on macro-modeling.

Business Coach Alexander Van Buren

Alexander Van Buren is an entrepreneur, consultant, author, and one of the world’s foremost behavioral modelers.  He has started and run his own companies for more than 35 years.

After becoming a certified Master Practitioner in Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) he spent 2 years learning how to ‘model something’ with NLP. He conducted his first behavioral modeling project in 1997.

Determined to elicit the structure of creativity in detail, he read Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks every single day for two years while eliciting Walt Disney’s actual creative process and studying Peter Drucker’s concepts on innovation.

The project loosed a flood of creative ideas. He became spontaneously ambidextrous and began dreaming in color and from multiple perceptual positions. He has conducted formal ongoing behavioral modeling projects ever since.

Over the next several years he elicited and created more than 170 original patterns of excellence and models. He’s modeled the comeback strategy of tennis legend Andre Agassi, the delegation methods of a senior executive at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the sales techniques of selling champions at Bluegreen, management and leadership patterns from extraordinary executives, top-performing investment bankers at George K. Baum, the mental-game patterns of world-class athletes, and many more.

Applying what he’d learned from his modeling projects, Alexander decided to start a business in April of 2008, right at the start of the economic recession. The business grew from a dining room table to five full-time employees in less than 2 years.

In 2002 he was hired by the Bluegreen Land & Golf Corporation to behaviorally model their top salespeople and referral-getters. Some of their salespeople went on to earn over a million dollars a year in take-home commission for the first time in the company’s history. Some of his phone coaching clients have increased their take-home pay to over a million dollars a year in commissions using these techniques.

In 2014 he was retained to model senior investment bankers for George K. Baum & Company and teach the model to a group of hand-picked, up-and-coming investment bankers.

Alexander has been a featured presenter at the Stanford Executive Program Graduate School of Business at Stanford University.

His clients include numerous small business owners and entrepreneurs and larger companies including Toshiba, Humana, Polte/Del Web, Bluegreen Land & Golf Corporation, The Army Corps of Engineers, The Nevada Regional Transportation Commission, Paramount Home Entertainment, Sinclaire Broadcasting – CWTV, Arrow Electronics, The Iowa National Guard, Safelite Auto Glass and hundreds more.
